Cognos BI Analyst

Job Description

This role is primarily that of a client-facing consultant.  The successful candidate will be adept at all facets of BI development (report authoring, FM modelling, ETL).  In addition he/she will have a desire to learn new technologies (SpotOn Vantage) and to push the envelope on traditional business intelligence reporting with GBI/map integration and data visualization capabilities such as Gantt charts.  The successful candidate will assist in defining and promoting a BI Reporting Excellence practice encompassing both technologies and design principles (i.e. Stephen Few).

Responsibilities

Work will primarily be project based work and for each project some or all tasks maybe required.

  • Work alongside clients to analyze and document their BI requirements. This may include requirement definitions, use cases, and data/model preparation.
  • Analyze source data systems and implement ETL solutions.
  • Design and implement reporting solutions including ETL, Data Modelling, Report Authoring, and IBM Cognos BI Portal Administration inline with the defined business requirements.
  • Design and implement reporting solutions with SpotOn Vantage, 3rd party visualization integration.
  • Carry out verification, validation and assurance activities at various stages of the developments and review functional requirements to assess their impact on the core products and applications and formulate test cases.
  • Provide post implementation support to the customer during the user acceptance testing.
  • Act as technical lead on projects providing the project manager with detailed tasking and estimations.
  • Travel will be required.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience working with clients
  • 3-5 Years Experience with Cognos BI Reporting and Metadata Authoring
  • Knowledge of SQL/ETL
  • Desire/openness to learn: technologies, approaches, etc
  • Problem solving
  • Experience with Oracle/DB2/SQL Server would be an asset
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS would be an asset
